Calendar of Rides and Events


Please be prepared for your rides.  Make sure your tires are inflated and you have tubes, water and energy bars.  Helmets are required on all rides.  Rain cancels.  Please check the location of the ride!


Tuesday Morning Marina Spin

EVERY TUESDAY & FRIDAY

approx. 15 miles, EASY

Meet:  PEET’S COFFEE - Santa Monica.  2439 Main St - parking on the street.  Map

Time:  6:15am  Leave:  6:30am PROMPTLY!

Route:  We start at Peet’s and head down south as we take a fast spin through the Marina.  Our turn around is at the Playa bridge and we head back to Peets for java before our day begins.  The route is the same every week and there are no route maps.  Shifting Gears members receive a free cup of coffee.


Helen’s 4th of July Parking Lot Sale

Meet:  HELEN’s Cycles - 1501 Broadway.  Santa Monica

Time:  9:30am - 3:30pm

Bundy Ride

SUNDAY 6th JULY 2008                              

approx. 48 - 52 miles EASY

Meet:  HELEN’S Cycles - Santa Monica/ 2501 Broadway -parking on the street 

Time:  8:00 am      Leave: 8:30 am                                                                                                                

Route: Take a flat warm up through the marina before we return to climb up Bundy - 2.5 miles up. You’ll get back in time to enjoy the holiday weekend.    


Sepulveda Ride

SUNDAY 13th JULY 2008

approx. 28 miles MODERATE w/ climbing

Meet: HELEN’S Cycles - Santa Monica/ 2501 Broadway -parking on the street  

Time:  8:00 am      Leave: 8:30 am   

Route:  Start with a lap up San Vincente Blvd before climbing up and over Sepulveda to the Valley.

We’ll ride to Whole Foods in Sherman Oaks. Get ready for some good climbing. Bring plenty of water!


Gravity Boot Camp

Better Cycling through Plyometric Cross-Training presented by Gravity Boot Camp

SATURDAY 19th July 2008

Meet:  PEET’S COFFEE & TEA - 2439 Main St. - Parking available above Main Street (check signs) or across from Peet’s in parking lot (metered parking)

Time: 9:00am  Leave:  9:15am

Description:  Now that you are fit from participating in AIDS/Lifecycle 7, and are starting to prepare for ALC 8, or just want to keep up with your faster riding buddies, come to a FREE class to learn the ways in which functional training can make you a stronger cyclist and better climber!  We’ll meet at Peet’s and head over to Ocean View Park (a .4 mile ride or walk) for a 30 minute strength and cardio class led by Gravity Boot Camp instructor and certified personal trainer, Mel Embree.  Bring running shoes and two full water bottles.  This class is structured to be suitable for any fitness level.


Playa Marina Spin

SUNDAY 20th JULY 2008                                       

approx. 30th miles EASY

Meet: HELEN’S Cycles - Santa Monica/ 2501 Broadway -parking on the street  

Time:  8:00 am      Leave: 8:30 am   

Route:  We’ll take an easy spin through the marina peninsula with 2 laps up Westchester Parkway

in Playa Del Rey. We’ll return for coffee at PEET’S Coffee on Main Street.



SHIFTING GEARS PAMPERING SPA RIDE


SATURDAY 26th JULY 2008    

approx. 15 miles EASY

Meet: PEET’S COFFEE & TEA - 2439 Main Street - next door to “Ben & Jerry’s” parking available above Main Street (check signs) or across from PEET’S in parking lot (metered parking)

Time:  8:30 am      Leave: 9:30 am                                                         

Route: We’ll meet at PEET’S COFFEE for a cup of coffee & pastries before we take our easy spin through Marina Del Rey. We’ll return for a morning of pampering at MAIN ATTRACTION NAIL & SPA on Main Street.


Indulge yourself with a Spa manicure, pedicure, chair massage or body treatment (waxing).

Malaga Cove

SUNDAY 27th JULY 2008            

approx. 40 - 46  miles  MODERATE

Meet: HELEN’S Cycles - Santa Monica/ 2501 Broadway  -parking on the street  

Time:  8:00 am      Leave: 8:30 am   

Route:   We’ll warm up with a flat ride through the South Bay beach area before we make our way to Malaga Cove

in Palos Verdes. One short steep hill plus a few short climbs on this route. Longer route will ride to Hawthorne

and return back to Helen’s Cycles.


MS Bike Tour

SATURDAY-SUNDAY 20-21st September 2008

Description:  The bike tour offers various route options for all levels of cyclists over two days.  The route begins on the south side of Camarillo and heads northeast to Santa Paola before traveling north through the beautiful Ojai Valley.  Day One finishes at Leadbetter Beach in breathtaking Santa Barbara, where riders will have the opportunity to celebrate with their friends and family at our annual festival that includes music, food, and a beer garden.  Day Two will begin back at the beach and take cyclists south along the ocean and through the strawberry fields of Oxnard to finish back in Camarillo.  To help bring us closer to a world free of MS, each participant agrees to raise the minimum pledge of $350.  For more info, go to www.bikemssocal.org and check out the ride’s Youtube video at here.
